The following configuration steps outline the process to deploy Veeam Backup and Replication with DataCore Swarm as the Capacity Tier in a Scale-out Backup Repository (SOBR).
Prerequisites
Veeam Backup and Replication v11+ with support for S3 compatible object storage.
DataCore Swarm v14+
Erasure Encoding enabled to support multi-part upload, 4:2 recommended.
Setup to support SSL, Veeam requires SSL transfer to object storage.
AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI tool) for setting and verifying advanced bucket parameters such as object locking.
Sequence of Operations
From a high level, use the following steps to configure the environment:
On your Swarm domain
Create a token that provides the credentials used in API calls from Veeam and the AWS CLI when communicating with Swarm.
Create a bucket with Erasure Coding and Content Versioning enabled.
Enable object locking on the bucket using the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI).
From the Veeam Backup & Replication console
Add a backup repository for immutable backups using the Swarm bucket created above.
Add a Scale-out Backup Repository using the Swarm bucket as the Capacity Tier.
